The parish expanded rapidly and within a few years, Fr. Furdek was unable to continue as pastor of St. Ladislas as well as Our Lady of Lourdes In 1890 he went to Slovakia and returned with the Reverend John Martvon, who was appointed first resident pastor. During the early years of the parish a succession of pastors followed in rapid order, as the need for more Slovak priests increased. Experienced pastors were called to new parishes. Those who served St. Ladislas were: Fathers V. Panuska, J. Jiranek (1894), Peter Cerveny (1894-1901), John Tichy (1901-1902), Francis Horvath (1902-1904), John Svozil (1904-1907), Ladislas Necid (1907-1942), John Weber (1942-1943), Joseph Ungarsky(1 943-1955), Benjamin Bayus (1955-1960), George Lawrence (1960-1966), and John Maro (1966-1970).

During the pastorate of Fr. John Svozil, a brick church was built and the cornerstone blessed in November of 1905. The frame church was then used as a parish hall. This new church served the parish until August 1970. St. Ladislas School originally staffed by the Notre Dame Sisters, later by the Ursuline Nuns; and finally, for thirty years by the Slovak Vincentian Sisters of Charity.

In 1961, St. Ladislas Parish celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The memorial book published for the occasion stated: "Much has been accomplished~both materially and spiritually-in the past 75 years. With a heart full of gratitude, we give thanks first of all, to Almighty God for his manifold blessings and graces; we give thanks to all in the past who toiled so diligently that we parishioners today could celebrate this glorious milestone.

During the 1960's property value depreciated, and a declining Catholic population in the area was unable to support the parish. By 1970 parishioners discussed the advisability of offering the property for sale and relocating St. Ladislas Parish. They asked the Bishop to consider this recommendation.

In August 1970 St. Ladislas Church was destroyed by fire. Approximately fifty families continued to attend Mass in the parish auditorium. Fr. M. Cieslik, and later Fr. John Zeman served as administrators to complete the liquidation of the parish. The property was sold to the temple of Islam for an educational center. The last Mass was said All Saints Day, November 1,1971.

On July 17,1973 Bishop Clarence G. lssenmann announced the relocation of St. Ladislas Parish in Westlake "to provide more adequately for the spiritual needs and convenience of the faithful in the area." The Reverend Thomas F. Cullen was named pastor of the new St. Ladislas. Property was acquired on Bassett Road and ground was blessed for the church on August 15, 1973. The new parish of 525 families comprises portions of territories which formerly belonged to Holy Trinity, St. Bernadette, St. Raphael and St. Richard Parishes.

Construction of the church was completed in July 1974, and on August 15, 1974, Bishop Clarence G. lssenmann dedicated the new St. Ladislas Church.A striking architectural feature at the entrance of the church is the stained glass

window depicting the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This had been in the former St. Ladis las Church and was the only window to be recovered after the destructive fire.

Members of St. Ladislas Parish rejoiced with their pastor, Fr. Cullen, at the dedication of the church in Westlake and echo the words of their predecessors "What has been accomplished in the past and what will be accomplished in the future, we know has been and will be done in the name of the Blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

Many men have served St. Ladislas as Associate Pastors:  Fr Edward Gareau, Fr John Lyons and Fr John Vrana. One native son, Fr Kenneth Breen, O de M, son of Rose & Ken Breen celebrated his ordination to priesthood here at St. Ladislas on November 16, 1985. We have also been privileged to be the place of residence for Bishop A. James Quinn since his Episcopal ordination in 1983. Bishop Quinn will often preside at a weekend liturgy or be featured on our weekly homily page.

In the twenty five-plus years since the founding of St. Ladislas the parish has experienced growth consistent with the development taking place within its boundaries. As the number of of parish households increased and as new needs were identified, it became apparent that additional space would be needed. Accordingly in 1991 a  new Parish Center consisting of a large meeting area with provisions for classrooms to house the burgeoning Parish School of Religion enrollment was dedicated.

As the parish continues to grow we feel quite confident that with the Lord's help we will continue to meet many new and exciting challenges in the years ahead.
